four years

(more years, here.)
Saturday night we went to dinner at Prune to celebrate our four-year anniversary. I just finished reading Blood, Bones & Butter (highly recommend) so it seemed like the perfect time to try out Chef Hamilton's restaurant. We had a lovely meal of prawns with anchovy butter, peas with honeycomb, pan fried trout, and spatchcocked chicken. And prosecco, of course, we were celebrating
We've been married for four years, which also means for us that we have lived in the same apartment for four years. It's funny when the years go by and you stay in one place. Even in college, I at least moved to a different floor each year (same building, but new perspective, and I don't mean that cute). Seasons and events and birthdays and holidays start to run together a little. Was it 2009 we stayed in New York for Thanksgiving or is that the year we went to Seattle? That sort of thing. Maybe it's also just getting older.
The first two years of marriage flew by. We mostly just had fun; cooked lots of dinners together and drank lots of wine and spent time with friends. Then Elliott went back to school and the honeymoon was over. We ordered a lot of takeout and drank whiskey instead of sharing a bottle of wine and time with friends was spent more separate than together. And, well, now graduate school is over, and here we are still in our apartment in Brooklyn. Sometimes it's hard to imagine what the next two years will bring. I'm old enough to be able to say we aren't getting any younger. But still, the future is much less daunting when it is our future, and we know we are in this together.
